The exhibition Victors for Art: Michigan's Alumni Collectors—Part I: Figuration brings together a wide range of artworks that represent a variety of art movements, media and geographical regions. What many of them have in common is that they show—though in wildly different ways—reflections on the human form. Whether we are looking at a painted self-portrait of an established artist or a photograph of an unidentified person, the reoccurrence of the human body in the majority of these works allows us to explore conceptual depictions of self and other. Join Laura De Becker, UMMA's Helmut and Candis Stern Associate Curator of African Art, for a discussion of works by Mickalene Thomas, Hendrik Kerstens, Herb Ritts and Beauford Delaney, among others.

Lead support for Victors for Art: Michigan's Alumni Collectors is provided by the University of Michigan Office of the Provost, Michigan Medicine, the University of Michigan Office of the President, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the University of Michigan Bicentennial Office.
