Palestinian popular resistance to the Israeli occupation takes many forms and occurs on a variety of fronts. This presentation will explore the history of Palestinian nonviolent direct action, from before the establishment of the state of Israel to present day. We will profile current leaders, methods and investigate the effectiveness of these campaigns. Finally, we will look at the state of international solidarity with the Palestinian struggle, with special attention to the growing Jewish participation in this movement.

Rabbi Brant Rosen is the Midwest Regional Director of the American Friends Service Committee and rabbi of a newly formed congregation, Tzedek Chicago. He is the co-founder of the Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinical Council and the author of “Wrestling in the Daylight: A Rabbi’s Path to Palestinian Solidarity.” He writes regularly about the subject of Israel/Palestine on his blog, Shalom Rav (https://proxy.qualtrics.com/proxy/?url=http%3A%2F%2Frabbibrant.com&token=tXL%2BRKjk8RKaW1ycZTyGbaKoQ8LmRtcwSwamxI8OuHA%3D) and has led/participated in numerous solidarity delegations to the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
