Alternative Spring Break Trip to Detroit

EVENT DESCRIPTION: This is an opportunity to spend your spring break volunteering in Detroit, MI. U.S. and international University of Michigan students will tutor students in Detroit Public Schools, volunteer with Gleaners Community Food Bank, and work alongside community members at Earthworks Urban Farm (a program of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen). You will also have the opportunity to learn more about Detroit through visits to local museums and places of interest. The group of students will be a diverse one, including students from different countries and from a variety of different cultural or religious backgrounds. Participants will be encouraged to discuss service work (such as the community service work that is part of this Alternative Spring Break), as it relates to their own background and personal beliefs.
