On Feb. 20, at 63 locations across the globe, local groups presented performances under the banner of “Nasty Women and Bad Hombres.” The date was chosen to coincide with President’s Day, rebranded in this case as “Not My President’s Day.” Borrowing tactics from decentralized and radically inclusive strategies of previous protest moments, the four originators worked to create a framework that could be adapted to fit the concerns and capacities of the local organizers. In this presentation, Professor Hughes will discuss the ongoing efforts in the context of other artist-driven protest movements.
