Google: The New Face of Internet Censorship
Public meeting, Mason Hall room 2306. In an act of political censorship, Google is blocking Internet traffic to a variety of socialist and left-wing websites, including the World Socialist Web Site, Alternet, Wikileaks, Counterpunch, Truth-out, and Common Dreams. Under the guise of combating “fake news,” this corporate giant is collaborating with the US government and the Democratic Party to limit access to political opinions that the ruling class deems “incorrect.”
Google’s censorship is part of broader moves to control information on the Internet, involving Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other corporations. The ruling elite fears that the free flow of information online threatens will encourage the growth of opposition to war, inequality and the attack on democratic rights.
This meeting is called by the Socialist Equality Party, the International Youth and Students for Social Equality, and the World Socialist Web Site, which is the censors’ primary target. The meeting will present the facts about Google’s attack on left-wing websites and lay out a plan for fighting censorship by placing the Internet under democratic control.
