Saturday Sampler Tour | The Art of Ancient Portraiture
Portrait sculpture not only illustrated the artistic conventions of cultures throughout the ancient Mediterranean but also sent messages of the social, political, and religious roles of the people being portrayed. We will compare and contrast characteristics of Egyptian, Greek and Roman, and Near Eastern cultures in our collection of portrait busts and relief carvings.
