Women and Aging through Literature and Reflective Writing
Read, Write, and Discuss
Essays, fiction, poems, and memoir excerpts written by women about aging will be used in this study group as prompts for reflective writing. This is not a creative writing class, but an opportunity to reflect more deeply about what aging means to us as women.
Following a discussion, members write during class and voluntarily share their writing with the group. Sample prompts might include: Write about a fear you have about growing older or describe a strength or positive attribute that has emerged in you as you’ve grown older.
Beth Spencer is a geriatric social worker, avid reader, and writer with decades of teaching experience. This study group for those 50 and over will be held on Wednesdays from March 28 to April 25.
