Science Café: The Past, Present, and Future of Ice
Jeremy Bassis, Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences, College of Engineering, and Sarah Aciego, Geological Sciences
Join two UM faculty members whose work explores ice, its history, and how fast it is melting for a discussion of ice, climate, and policy. Jeremy Bassis (College of Engineering, Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences) studies ice sheets and glaciers, and his recent work on iceberg formation may increase the accuracy of estimates of polar melting and sea level rise. Sarah Aciego of the Department of Geological Sciences studies how isotopes can be used to provide dates in ice cores and help read what the layers in ice tell us about the past. Together, their work sheds light on the past, present and future of ice on our planet.
Join us for hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 and a brief presentation at 6:00 pm, followed by informal discussion.”¯ Everyone is welcome and invited to purchase additional food and beverages. Participants must be 21 to purchase alcoholic beverages.
