Please save the date as the Athletic Department proudly welcomes sociologist and civil rights activist, Dr. Harry Edwards as our guest speaker in honor of MLK Day. Dr. Edwards has a long and storied history ofactivism focused upon developments at the interface of sport, race, andsociety. He may be best known as the architect of the Black Power Salute protest by athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
This town hall and panel discussion will focus on tangible ways in which we can move from protests to progress and how athletes can best use their platforms to help shape change.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Ketra Armstrong, Professor and Associate Deanfor Graduate Programs and Faculty Affairs, School of Kinesiology. Panelists: Dr. Lynn Videka, Dean of Social Work, Dr. Robert Ortega, AssociateProfessor of Social Work, as well as two student-athletes.
