DC Immersion- visit the Office of Justice Programs, NASEM & Partnership for Public Service!

APPLICATIONS OPEN ON MONDAY, JANUARY 22ND AND CLOSE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH

On Wednesday, February 28th, the University Career Center will be taking 20 students to spend a day and a half visiting the Office of Justice Programs with the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine, and the Partnership forPublic Service in Washington, D.C. over spring break. During this experience, students will engage with each team to gain a deeper understanding of their different areas of work. Participants will leave with a complete understanding of each organization, their roles, and make new & valuableconnections! There will also be a networking reception with U-M alumni.

WASHINGTON D.C. IMMERSION SCHEDULE:
- Tuesday, February 27: students arrive in Washington, D.C. and later that evening meet downtown for a welcome & alumni networking reception from 5:00pm-7:30 at the Mad Hatter 1319 Connecticut Ave, Washington, DC 20036
- Wednesday, February 28: visit the Office of Justice Programs at the U.S. Department of Justice, have lunch/listen to a speaker panel with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine & finish the day by meeting the team at the Partnership for Public Service

This opportunity is open to all undergraduate studentsin all 19 schools/colleges wanting to see what it is like to work in thisarea.

OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS - THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
- Tour their dynamic work space to get a feel of the environment/culture
- Meet with subject experts on crime victims and a member of the National Institute of Justice to hear about their work and ask them questions
- Gaina thorough understanding of USAJOBS.gov and the pathways program for finding an opportunity that's right for you!

NATIONAL ACADEMIES OF SCIENCES, ENGINEERING & MEDICINE (NASEM)
- Have lunch with members of their teamthat are UM alumni!
- Learn about different roles and what a typical daylooks like from current staff, who have experience in international development, science policy, and international economics/banking
- Network to learn about science policy and international development and tips for career success

PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE
- Meet with various team members & UM alumni to hear about the different areas of work at their organization
- Tour their work space, which used to be an old bus station &has since been remodeled
- Hear from team members through a panel discussion on working in public service & the different career options available

*This application will open on Monday, January 22nd and close on Sunday, February 11th- please click 'join event' to fill out your application if you are certain you would be available to attend. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis and if there is a large interest in the event and we receive a large number of applications early on, this application may close early. Students must be able to attend the full program to participate. University Career Center staff will be along with you on the Immersion to guide you through the visits, and more details will be provided to the selected participants. Please note that students that have participated in PSIP will not be eligible for this opportunity.

Lunch will be provided for attendees on 2/28/18. Students participating in this event are responsible for their own lodging & transportation. If this is of concern, please reach out to Kathleen at kathlmcd@umich.edu to discuss other options!

If you are no longer able to attend this Immersion, you must notify Kathleen of the cancellation via email at kathlmcd@umich.edu by Friday, February 2nd. If you do not formally cancel by 2/2/18, you will receive a cancellation penalty.
