Spectrum Center 40th Anniversary Film Series: Camouflage

Arrive at 4pm for Rod Gailes' Social Justice Training Workshop. Rod Gailes, the director of "Camouflage", will be leading an interactive workshop called "The Human Family Reunion: Celebrating the Journey to Common Ground" from 4-6. It's an interactive exploration of creating unified group identity in a diverse community. Team building, discussion, & "attainable" goal setting in a hands-on experience with filmmaker & culture commentator Rod Gailes OBC. Food will be provided.

Following the workshop at 6:30, we will be screening his film, "Camouflage". “Camouflage” is a cinematic collage capturing the essence of a very specific time and place in “pre-gentrified” Harlem: before Starbucks, M.A.C. Cosmetics stores and multimillion dollar condos. Camouflage is a documentary-style narrative peppered with elements of reality. Audiences are given a ”˜Rashomon’-like view of a young man coming to grips with his power to choose a path beyond his current circumstances: promiscuity, drug culture and violence. Inspiring in its realism, “Camouflage” offers a window into the otherwise private subculture of urban youth. “Camouflage” is a racy, sometimes shocking, portrait of a young man swimming through a lifestyle with him as our willing but sometimes reluctant guide.
