Presented By: Multi Ethnic Student Affairs - MESA
Intra MENA/SWANA Hierarchy and the Impact of Terminology
Fatima Hassan, Diala Khalife, Mekarem Eljamal
This workshop is part of Arab Heritage Month at the University of Michigan.
How do the terms Arab, MENA (Middle Eastern and North African), SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) either perpetuate or challenge intra-communal power dynamics? What marginalized communities and people do these terms uplift or erase? Join us for a workshop exploring the intersections of power and hierarchy in SWANA and/or Arab communities, and the possibilities of intra-SWANA solidarity and coalition-building on campus.
Please direct all inquiries to Zanib Sarieni (zsareini@umich.edu) in the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs
