Canvas Discussions are an excellent way to build a sense of community, engage in course content, and to assess learning. The key, however, is to make Discussions meaningful and manageable for instructors and students. Discussions should be integrated into the course so students see a meaningful connection to their learning. Clear guidelines and reasonable parameters for participation ensure online discussion is a manageable part of the course.

This session will explore best practices for online discussion including how to ask the right questions, manage time, and bring the discussion back to the class. We will also examine how to design clear, simple Canvas Rubrics to outline expectations.
