Lance McCready - Space
The second lecture in Oakland University School of Education and Human Services Winter Lecture Series features Lance McCready, Assistant Professor, Institute for Studies in Education and University of Toronto, Ontario.
Lance McCready is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He teaches graduate courses in Urban Education. Lance's research seeks to develop and promote “intersectional” perspectives on urban education that look at the ways race, class, gender, and sexuality have an impact on
teaching and learning in inner-city schools. In particular, he is interested in the way intersectional perspectives can help teachers, students, and policymakers better understand disparities in achievement, participation, and discipline. His most recent publications focus on "making space" for diverse masculinities in urban education and how the experiences of gay and gender non-conforming Black male students reframe the “troubles” Black males face in urban high schools.
