Saturday Sampler Tour | The Sounds of the Past
What do we know about what the past sounded like? The barking of dogs, slap of sandals, ringing of bells, raucous partying at festivals, the hum of a lyre — archaeologists and historians have a growing interest in the sounds of the past. On this tour, listen to samples of modern recreations of ancient music, see the instruments of the past, and learn what ancient writers had to say about the sounds of their time. A special artifact of interest is a piece of Egyptian sheet music on display in the special exhibition "Excavating Archaeology @ U-M: 1817-2017."
Saturday Sampler tours are free and open to all visitors. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this tour, please contact the education office (734-647-4167) at least two weeks in advance. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the University to arrange.
