This Tuesday (2/1/11), Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. will be collaborating with the Spectrum Center to present a unique Black History Month and Valentine's Day program, entitled "A Minority Within a Minority: Exploring Queer Love in the Black Community." This discussion-based program will explore the way in which non-heterosexuals of color--specifically within the Black community--are represented in a society which seems to exclude their unique intersectional experience, and often equates homosexuality to whiteness. At the end of this discussion, we will think of concrete ways of incorporating the queer black experience into a mostly white heteronormative mainstream culture, while also thinking of ways to make love a universal experience, regardless of race or sexual orientation.
