Barbara Anderson (Ronald Freedman Collegiate Professor of Sociology and Population Studies), Elisha Renne (Professor and Associate Director, Center for Afroamerican and African Studies and the Department of Anthropology), and John Romani (Professor Emeritus, Public Health Administration) will join us to discuss the impact of the availability of fresh, clean water on women’s lives in the developing world. What are the decisions families face? Are there realistic solutions? Professor Renne will highlight work done in a gold-mining community in Ghana. Professors Anderson and Romani will discuss their work in South Africa dealing with the choices families make of whether or not to boil or chemically treat their water.

Science Cafés are an opportunity to discuss science topics with experts in an informal setting. Hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 are followed by a brief presentation at 6:00 pm, then by discussion. Everyone is welcome and invited to purchase additional food and beverages. Participants must be 21 to purchase alcoholic beverages.
