UMS Teacher Workshop: Native American Immersion
Scheduled to coincide with the full moon, this season’s Native American Immersion provides an opportunity for area educators to engage with the scholarship about and the craftsmanship of local Native American culture. While UMS has a season-long focus on the Americas from Canada to Chile, the history, traditions, and contemporary presence of the indigenous peoples of southeast Michigan will focus and inform all of the day’s activities. Participants will end the workshop with an expanded vocabulary of the Ojibwe language that will allow them to recount their immersion experiences of eating foods and making deerskin drums of the early Michigan Territory.
