Are you or your student group teaching English or volunteering abroad?
The Quito Project is hosting a free educational workshop that is open to any student planning to teach English or volunteer abroad. This workshop is part one of a two part series to tackle the issues of “voluntourist” behaviors which tend to decay international community partnerships over time.
This workshop provides strategies for fulfilling a basic component of teaching:  giving clear instructions. Largely overlooked and yet frequently problematic, giving clear instructions is critical for classroom management and student learning. Without clear instructions, even the most developed lesson plan will fall apart. When students don’t know what to do, they’ll find something to do. Add in a second language, and the process is even more complicated. Thus, this workshop introduces you to one of the fundamental steps to getting your class, your activities, and most importantly, your students’ learning, off to a successful start!
In addition, participants will gain access to other on-campus resources that will help them not only prepare, but also reflect on their volunteer experiences abroad in order to maximize their impact while strengthening their personal goals and development.
