VANGUARDS, an annual event produced by arts advocacy organization FIGHTING OBSTACLES KNOWING ULTIMATE SUCCESS, is a celebration of up-and-coming student artists, trail-blazing local musicians, and students at the end of another academic year. It takes place on the Diag each April and is modeled with respect to a classic block party, providing an atmosphere of inclusivity, fun, creativity, and collaborative learning to a wide array of students, professors, staff, and members of the Ann Arbor community.

This year will feature traditional block party games; student bands and performers; a drum and dance circle led by Bichini Bia Congo; the creation of a communally-painted mural; interactive art activities; DJs from UM's first Beat Battle; a dance-off between prominent dance organizations and audience participants; a Zumba workshop; a key-note speaker from the Detroit school system who will discuss how art has been empowering in her life; and many other exciting performances and activities. Barbeque-style food will be provided free of charge at the event.

Come to VANGUARDS to forget the worries of finals and to celebrate the creativity that flows throughout the University!
