American Nightmares Photography Exhibition
The University of Michigan Detroit Center and The Carr Center invite you to the reception for our first exhibition collaboration, American Nightmares
Join us Friday, the 16th of November, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at The U-M Detroit Center (3663 Woodward Ave. Suite 150, Detroit, MI 48201) as artist Andrew Ross Evans will give a talk about his exhibit in the Detroit Center's Mont's Hall Gallery
Light refreshments will be served
About the Artist:
Andrew Ross Evans is a self-taught surrealist photographer born and raised in Detroit. He has been shooting for over 10 years. He uses surreal images to create expressive narratives for his viewers. Andrew’s visionary and textual images speak directly to our fears, dreams, and desires without being prescriptive, formulaic, or giving us the answers. Evans explores themes of mortality, the ephemeral, and beauty in his photographs and poetry.
About the Exhibition:
American Nightmares is a photography exhibition of the work of Andrew Ross Evans. The exhibit is an introspective exploration of dreams and personal experience in contemporary America. Beautiful and haunting these dreamscapes, paired with the artist’s own writings, construct a vivid picture of Evans’ positionality, and a dialogue about the interstitial liminal spaces between life, death, desire, aversion, beauty, and ugliness. Evans’ visual and textual works, although deeply personal, deal with universally human tropes and implicate the viewer in the process, beckoning us to likewise explore.
