Dr. LaVaque-Manty is the Director of the Honors Program, an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, and Associate Professor of Political Science and Associate Professor of Philosophy. A philosopher by training, he is a political theorist whose research interests focus on how people develop and maintain a sense of autonomy, and on what kinds of institutions foster and support autonomy. He is particularly interested in educational institutions, although he has written on dueling, doping, and Johnny Cash, among other
wacky topics.
