Filling Seats, Being Heard: What Happens after the Poem is Finished
As poets, many of us avoid organizational roles, and as a result, our communities and poets suffer. Join Lauren Banka, WU-Slam's President, and Aaron Samuels, one of its founders, for a conversation about how to create and sustain a healthy, productive, and impactful slam community. In the last three years, WU-SLam, Washington University in St. Louis's slam organization, has gone from nonexistence to a major on-campus and national force, including packing out 700-people theatres within five minutes of doors opening and having a regular 30-50 person attendance at weekly writing workshops. This conversation will include issues of logistics, publicity, and creating an artistic community that is both challenging and supportive.
