Study Group
Participants will see the evidence of the decline of Michigan’s schools over recent decades, consider the causes, and examine educational innovations and successes throughout the state. General topics to be covered include: Persistently deteriorating student achievement data, failing national and state political support for public education, state educational policy and administrative chaos: who is accountable for what; growing financial disparity and educational inequality; threats to local and state economic prosperity and social equity; the need for sustained, well-financed, public-spirited, powerful citizen-led engagement.
Dr. Beverley Geltner has more than 40 years’ experience in public and higher education, she is a tenured professor at Oakland and Eastern Michigan Universities. This Study Group is for those 50 and over and will meet Mondays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. March 11th through 25th.
