Bishop Lecture in Bioethics
The Complex Ethical Mess Surrounding Genetic Testing in Children
Established by a generous gift from the estate of Ronald C. and Nancy V. Bishop (both graduates of the U-M Medical School, class of '44) and co-sponsored by the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine, the inaugural Bishop Lecture in Bioethics will take place on Thursday, May 19 at 4:30 in the Alumni Center and features a talk given by John D. Mantos, MD, Director of the Children's Mercy Bioethics Center in Kansas City. Dr. Lantos will present a lecture entitled, "The Complex Ethical Mess Surrounding Genetic Testing in Children." A leading voice in bioethics, Dr. Lantos has served as President of the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics, and of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities, and worked on President Clinton's health reform task force. He is the author/editor of a number of books, including "Do We Still Need Doctors?" He has appeared on Larry King Live, Oprah, and Nightline.
