Join guest curator Xiaobing Tang in the informal setting of the gallery as he offers a first look at UMMA’s new exhibition, Multiple Impressions: Contemporary Chinese Woodblock Prints. Trained as a literary scholar in China and the US, Tang developed this project directly from his experiences as Mellon fellow in 2008 when he immersed himself in the art history and practical skills of making woodblock prints at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. During the next few years, he travelled extensively to artist’s studios to assemble the works for this exhibition–the largest and most diverse exhibition of contemporary prints to be seen in the US since 2000. Learn about the diversity of the contemporary art world in China and the fascinating techniques used to make these works.
