Saturday Sampler Tour | Life in Graeco-Roman Egypt
In 332 BCE, Alexander the Great conquered Egypt. Following his death, his general Ptolemy established a new dynasty that ruled until the Romans conquered Egypt in 30 BCE, after the defeat of Marc Antony and Cleopatra. The University of Michigan’s excavations in Karanis, Terenouthis, and Dimé (Soknopaiou Nesos) reveal the daily life of people living in Egypt during this period. On this guided tour, see the artifacts from homes, temples, granaries, and public buildings that help us understand this interesting period in Egyptian history.
Saturday Sampler tours are free and open to all visitors. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this tour, please contact the education office (734-647-4167) at least two weeks in advance. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the University to arrange.
