2019 Stamps Commencement Ceremony
The 2019 Stamps Commencement celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Art & Architecture Building (2000 Bonisteel Blvd) in the school courtyard. The celebration includes short speeches by graduating undergraduate and graduate students and a commencement address by Stamps alumnus and Walt Disney Animation Studios Head of Effects Animation Cesar Velazquez (BFA ‘94) . The Stamps Commencement ceremony takes place after the 10 am Central Campus Spring Commencement at Michigan Stadium.
About Cesar VelazquezCesar Velazquez was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and raised in the nearby rural community of Saline. He attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated from the Stamps School of Art & Design with a BFA degree in 1994. In college, he joined a small group of classmates interested making 3D animated shorts and projects involving computer art. His goal was to get into film production on the art side, while finding ways to apply his technical background to realize his artistic vision. Cesar began his career in the motion picture industry in 1995, when he moved to Los Angeles and landed a job with Warner Bros. Imaging Technology (WBIT), developing software for such live-action films as Eraser and Mars Attacks. In 1999, he joined Dream Quest Images, where he worked on the films Mission to Mars and Reign of Fire, among others. He later joined Walt Disney Animation Studios where he still remains today. While at Disney Animation, Cesar contributed on multiple animated shorts, amusement park rides and feature animated films. This included being an Effects Supervisor on Wreck-it Ralph and Head of Effects Animation on the Academy Award winning Zootopia. Cesar Velazquez most recently served as Head of Effects Animation for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Ralph Breaks the Internet for which he was awarded an Annie Award in the category of “Outstanding Achievement for Animated Effects in an Animated Feature Production”. Cesar is also an active member in organizations such as the Visual Effects Society and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
