Michigan audiences may know cellist Ben Sollee from his work with Abigail Washburn's Sparrow Quartet, but now he's stepping out on his own with wildly original music that doesn't fit into any genre. Classically trained, he draws on Appalachian, chamber pop, jazz, blues, and traditional songwriter folk music. What ties it all together is intensity! "I never expect to see that cello in one piece after Ben gets done playing it,” says My Morning Jacket frontman Yim Yames. “He bows and beats and works it over with a passionate fury rarely seen. Don’t get me wrong–he can play it and hold his own with the most schooled and delicate scholars out there, but more importantly, Ben makes it live." He comes to The Ark with an acclaimed new album, "Inclusions."
