Astronomy Colloquium Series Presents
Dr. Dan Gifford, Distinguished Alumni, Senior Data Scientist, Getty Images
From Galaxy Clusters to Getty Images: My Career in Astrophysics and Applied Computer Vision Research
While many in the physical sciences pursue careers outside academia, every path is a little different. Since earning his Ph.D. from the UM Astronomy and Astrophysics Department in 2015, Dan has worked as a data scientist at Getty Images. This talk will cover three parts of his career: 1. Past - The journey from Astrophysics to Data Science, 2. Present - Machine Learning and AI at Getty Images, 3. Future - Where is Machine Learning and AI headed? Whether you are an undergrad/graduate student beginning to think about your next career steps, or tenured faculty with students and researchers looking to you for advice, this talk may serve as a reference if one is interested in data science as a career option.
Please note: Should you require any accommodations to ensure equal access and opportunity related to this event please contact Stacy Tiburzi at 734-764-3440 or stibu@umich.edu.
Tea will be served beforehand from 3:00-3:30pm in Serpens.
