Lecture: Cracks in the Walls - UM Cultural Diplomacy and the Cold War

Fifty years ago, William Revelli’s U-M Symphony Band toured Russia and the Middle East. They saw the remains of Gary Powers’ U2 spy plane, met disaffected American Lee Harvey Oswald, and were held in their hotel for their own protection during the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Join Professor Mark Clague for a panel discussion of alumni, faculty, and current students, recently returned from the Symphony Band’s 2011 tour of China, to explore the power of music in making friends across international borders.
