Riders in the Sky, recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, but they're not slowing down—that wouldn't be the Cowboy Way! The Riders roll on with their mix of Western song classics and zany send-ups of these. What sometimes gets overlooked amid the hilarity is that Ranger Doug (Idol of American Youth), Woody Paul (King of the Cowboy Fiddlers), Joey (the Cowpolka King), and Too Slim (Licensed Driver) are matchless musicians, with a huge and growing stock of old and new songs to draw on as they deepen a great American tradition. And can Keith Urban do rope tricks on stage? Ranger Doug was an Ann Arborite once upon a time, and the group's Ark shows have been uniformly terrific. Riders In The Sky are the only exclusively Western artist to have won a Grammy (twice). That the band was even formed is a feat of improbable likelihood. What are the odds that a theoretical plasma physicist, a wildlife manager–galvanizer–Life Scout, an English major–shot putter–Bluegrass Boy, and a Polka Hall of Fame member would collectively become "America's Favorite Cowboys"?
