We're turning traditional speed dating upside down -- well, not exactly upside down. Maybe sideways. Or at least, nudging it a little in a funny way. Instead of speed talking your way through 10 or more potential partners, you'll be participating in 10-20 activities--activities we're calling creative. Nothing that would make you incredibly self-conscious, and nothing that will require more than 30% of your concentration. The activities are designed to improve your interaction with a potential partner by giving you a common, interesting project. Make conversation as you choose your favorite finger puppet or collaborate on a colorful collage. Don't like a particular station? No problem -- you'll be leaving it in five minutes for a more interesting one! Like the person you sculpted push pots with? Great! Mark his/her name on your card and at the end of the night, we'll tally the results. You'll receive an email from us a few days later with a way to get in touch with all your new dates.
This project is part of the exciting programming at the University of Michigan's Public Gallery, Work: Ann Arbor, made available to us through an Art & Design Master of Fine Arts seminar. This graduate seminar opened the Gallery this fall in order to explore the potential and possible gestures a cultural space can provide.
