Behind the Scenes: the truth of working your way up in the shadows of Hollywood

Join us for a candid conversation with writer Eboni Freeman and producer Skylar Andrews about how they both carved out paths as Black women in the entertainment industry. Together Eboni and Skylar will share the not-so-glamorous aspects of establishing yourself in entertainment, the unspoken rules of Hollywood, and what it’s truly like to be a writer and producer. This is an exclusive opportunity for LSA students to learn from and engage with two established Black women working in entertainment.

About Skylar and Eboni:
Skylar Andrews (Communications and Media, ‘09) is a producer, driven to shed light on stories that challenge conventional paradigms. Her recent producing work includes Alex Morgan: The Equalizer, an ESPN+ documentary series, Milestones, a branded short film series with Toyota, and More Than a Football Player, an original short film and live performance with LeBron James' sports empowerment brand UNINTERRUPTED. Skylar is currently developing an array of scripted and doc projects.

Eboni Freeman (Sports Management, ‘09) is a native Angelino who got her start in the television industry working behind the scenes for Fox Sports; winning an Emmy for her work covering the 2015 Women’s World Cup. In 2016, Eboni was chosen as a Sundance Episodic Fellow for her TV pilot, LOVELY WOMEN, which was also selected for WeForShe’s 2018 WriteHer List. She is currently an Executive Story Editor on the hit NBC series, THIS IS US. In 2019, Eboni was nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award and a Humanitas Award for her work on the show.
