Hub Workshop: The Essentials of Networking
According to a 2017 LinkedIn survey, 80% of professionals consider networking important to career growth because of its ability to nurture relationships, secure job opportunities, and even provide greater job satisfaction.
Through online Canvas modules and a live virtual workshop, you will learn how to tap into networks you already have, introduce yourself professionally, and build authentic, long-lasting connections. To maximize your experience, please plan to set aside one hour to complete the online Canvas modules once they are available on September 16, prior to the live virtual session on September 23.
You should attend this workshop if you are:
- A liberal arts and/or sciences student
- Inexperienced with networking or just need some additional pointers
- Exploring career possibilities and need to gather industry insights from professionals
- Looking to form connections based on a shared identity or job interest or even establish a more long-lasting relationship with a mentor
By taking the online Canvas modules, you will:
- Learn about the overarching purpose and goals of networking
- Identify who’s already in your current network and who you want to connect with
- Craft an elevator pitch to be used when interacting with recruiters
- Draft an outreach message to help build your network
By attending the live virtual workshop, you will:
- Discuss your networking fears and strategize on how to address them
- Get ideas on when to network and different approaches to networking
- Polish your elevator pitch and outreach message through practice and feedback
