SEA Fashion and Craft Night
Make your own Krathong, win prizes, enjoy FREE finger food, live bands and fashion shows

Hello Wolverines,
Winter is here, final exams are just around the corner - perhaps a little
stressed out?
Thai Club at the University of Michigan is giving you an opportunity to
have some fun making a crafty "Krathong" at the Southeast Asia Fashion and
Craft Night.
A Krathong (see attachment for picture) is a traditional, exquisite, and
historically significant buoyant craft which is made every year to show
appreciation to the River Goddess. This tradition is celebrated in Thailand
and parts of Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and northern Malaysia as well. At the
event, you will make a Krathong of your own using materials and
instructions that we will provide.
There is also an opportunity for you to win prizes! Also, Thais believe
that if you float your Krathong, you will float away your bad luck. Thus,
this is a great opportunity to clear your bad luck in anticipation of your
finals!
Time: Saturday, December 3 from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm (you may come anytime,
krathong should take about 30 mins for you to make)
Venue: Trotter Multicultural Center, 1443 Washtenaw Avenue Ann Arbor, MI
48109. It is walk-able distance.
What: Learn about a unique tradition and make your own Krathong
Why: Fun, prizes, diversity, rid yourself of bad luck
In addition, note that this event is part of the SEA Fashion and Craft
Night so you will also have an opportunity to enjoy FREE finger food (by
SEA Gourmet), fashion shows, live bands (from Singaporean SA) and more from
student organizations of Southeast Asia (Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, and
Singapore).
If there are further questions, please contact me at joekaew@umich.edu. I
look forward to a good night and hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Joe Kaewbaidhoon
