SMTD@UMMA--William Bolcom: Portraits

In conjunction with the exhibition Face of Our Time, UMMA presents celebrated song cycles by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and UM Professor Emeritus William Bolcom, in which he captures the unique character of his subjects in exquisite depth and detail. From the Diary of Sally Hemings imagines the recollections of Thomas Jefferson's longtime partner, and Briefly It Enters traces Jane Kenyon, through her poetry, in the last months of her life. Joan Morris and William Bolcom perform his new set of cabaret miniatures, Minicabs. They are joined by sopranos Jennifer Goltz and Kimberly Haynes, and by UM Professor Timothy Cheek on piano.
The SMTD@UMMA performance series is made possible in part by the Katherine Tuck Enrichment Fund. Face of Our Time: Jacob Aue Sobol, Jim Goldberg, Zanele Muholi, Daniel Schwartz, Richard Misrach is organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Generous support is provided by Pro Helvetia, Swiss Arts Council. Face of Our Time at UMMA is made possible in part by the Lois Zenkel Photographic Exhibitions Fund, the University of Michigan Health System, and the University of Michigan Office of the Provost.
