Vincent Chandler is one of the finest trombonists to hail from Detroit since Curtis Fuller (an important influence) and received hands-on performance training from local heroes such as Kenn Cox, Marcus Belgrave, Harold McKinney, Teddy Harris, Wendell Harrison, Rodney Whitaker, and James Carter. Chandler has performed with jazz greats such as Joe Henderson, Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Watson, Geri Allen, and Christian McBride. He was a featured artist at the 2009 Playboy Jazz Festival, where he performed with Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller. Chandler is the former bandleader of the popular regionally based quintet Urban Transport. He is a member of the Roy Hargrove Big Band and is a featured soloist on Hargrove’s first big band CD, Emergence. He is also featured on an October 2011 CD release by the well-known James Carter.

This monthly series, curated by UM Associate Professor Adam Unsworth, presents outstanding local artists in an intimate setting. This series is made possible by the Doris Sloan Memorial Fund.
