Food Insecurity Letter Writing Advocacy Workshop
Student Advocates for Nutrition (SAN) and the Health Policy Student Association are excited to host an advocacy letter writing workshop regarding college campus food insecurity on Monday October 26th from 6-7pm via Zoom. This is important because 30% of UM students struggle with food insecurity in some way and COVID-19 has only exasperated the problem. We will teach what exactly food insecurity is, what it looks like at the University of Michigan, and how we can address it through advocacy. Attendees will leave this event with a crafted letter to send to your state representatives targeting House Resolution 0251. This resolution urges the United States Department of Agriculture to grant a federal waiver to temporarily suspend the rules that make college students ineligible for SNAP (food stamps) benefits. This is an event open to all UM community members. Students can register for this event with the link below. A Zoom link and Google Calendar invite is provided in this form after registering. tinyurl.com/registeradvocacyevent
