MVPA with The Decoding Toolbox

Abstract: In this workshop, you will learn how to do multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) with The Decoding Toolbox, a Matlab software package. In contrast to traditional fMRI analyses which try to detect signal averaged over a particular region, MVPA searches for patterns in the signal that are distributed over a wide area. These patterns are then used to train a classifier, and its performance is judged by its accuracy at classifying new patterns. We will review both ROI and searchlight approaches, learn about how to create your own MVPA experiment, and then analyze the data from Haxby et al., 2001 - one of the original studies that introduced MVPA to neuroimaging.
The format of this workshop will be a brief lecture followed by a hands-on tutorial. You will need to have Matlab installed in order to follow along with the analysis.
