2021 University of Michigan Green Career Fair

Pre-Event Prep SessionDate: Monday, January 25 / 5pmLocation:Virtual  Zoom link will be provided at a later date.What to Expect at Green FairThe University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) is one of the nation's top graduate programs in natural resources and environmental fields. We are partnering with student groups, Students for Clean Energy and Net Impact to host a campus wide environmental and sustainability career fair. Last year 40+ employers and 600 graduate and undergraduate students participated from a wide variety of departments (SEAS, Ross Business School, College of Engineering, Ford School of Public Policy, Program in the Environment and many others).FAQsWhat is a Green Career Fair?  This fair is structured similarly to other career fairs, but with a focus on environment and sustainability jobs and internships.Who can come to this event? All students! This is an opportunity for any interested student to pursue green internships and jobs regardless of major or minor.What Organizations are attending? Students can view a full listof employers attending the fair in Career Fair+Should I participate even if I am not currently seeking a job or internship?  YES! The career fair is a critical opportunity to develop professional networking connections and to learn about employers that may interest you in the future.Why work a"green job" With increasing concerns about climate change and environmental degradation in contemporary society, there is a demand for environmentally conscious careers. Applying your skills to an environmental position can provide fulfilling experiences that encourage sustainable thinking in future career paths and benefit the environment as a whole RegistrationRegistration will become available in January. Registration prior to the event is extremely encouraged. To register for the event, please create an account and follow the steps in Career Fair+. Tips from StudentsThe Green Fair can be a bit overwhelming. Use this tips from students to make the most of each day:- "Be prepared to ask specific questions of different recruiters based on the research you've done on their company"- "Go in with a game plan because the long lines can be disorienting"- "Remember people's names from the companies you are interested in. It will make it easier to follow up with them in the future- "I would have been less stressed out if I was more organized"- "Come prepared and knowing what position(s) you areinterested in. Got more questions?Please contact seas-careers@umich.eduRead First!• There is no registration through Handshake..ignore the "Registration Currently Closed " button in the upper right corner• Sign-up for 1:1 appointments and Group Meetings starts Monday January 25 at 9:00am in Career Fair+-----------------------------------------------------  Note: this event is for UofM-Ann Arbor students& recent grads onlyPlease read carefully to learn how it works and what you need to do!!How it Works: Career Fair+ (CF+) • CF+ includes Group Meetings and 1:1 meetings• check out the “Candidate Checklist” for detailed instructions and videos                  About Group Meetings• Each organization has at least one Group Meeting the day of the Fairfor students to informally visit with recruiters• group meeting space is limited to 50 at a time so if it’s full you’ll receive a message to try again soonAbout 1:1 meetings• each organization offers 1:1 meetings; some organizations offer multiple “meeting schedules”• each meeting is scheduled for 10minutes• it’s important to know meetings are not interviews. They are informal meetings similar to an extended visit at a table at a physical fair.• schedule sign-up opens on January 25 (9am)Whatto do: Before the Fair1. Get familiar with CF+• download the app:  Android         iOS• create an account• search “Orgs” for University of Michigan• select University of Michigan and then SEAS 2021 Winter Green Career Fair• explore participating organizations (updated daily) and select your favorites• use the “Filter” (upper right corner) to search by type of position, class level and more 2. Scheduling Group Meetings and 1:1 Meetings• Sign-up is first come/first served and startsJanuary 25 (9am) and runs through January 28th (2pm)    if spaces are available• We expect some meeting schedules to fill quickly.• Watch for any cancellations throughout the Fair• Watch this video on how to schedule meetings• Visit the Group Meeting(s) if you are not able to schedule a 1:1 meetingWhat to do: Day Before the Fair1. Double check your CF+ meeting(s)• Open the CF+ app  on your laptop/desktop & login to your account • Select "Meetings" to make sure you can access meetings schedule• Meetings are video and through CF+. • Click "Join Meeting" from oneof your scheduled meetings and test that your video and microphone are working. • Contact support@careerfairplus.com for technical supportWhat todo: During the Fair1.
