RETHINK SHINOLA is a net-based artwork that contextualizes the company Shinola within a history of systemic racism in Detroit and colonial conquest as far back as Columbus’s aspirations for the “new world.” The work presents as an animated tour of Shinola’s past and present to critique their representations of patriarchal whiteness used to enforce perceptions of their “leadership.”
“UnProductive Solutions” is a fictional company that collectively imagines a technological world with a soul by commissioning artists to develop e-services asserting values of inefficiency, slowness, unprofitability, and self-determination.
