I Can't Think Straight

A FREE screening of the award-winning lesbian romantic comedy on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at 7:00pm in the Helmut Stern Auditorium of the UMMA. Q&A with Women's Studies professor Sri Nair and FREE FOOD to follow! Sponsored by the Spectrum Center, MSA, and UMMA. The exuberant, touching romantic comedy about the clashing of two worlds and cultures continues to sweep film festivals across the globe, snagging multiple awards for LGBT visibility. Based on out South Asian director Shamim Sarif's autobiographical novel, the film revolves around two women from deeply diverse backgrounds who discover that the love between them is too powerful to deny. Tala (Lisa Ray) is a Christian, London-based Jordanian of Palestinian descent in the midst of planning her wedding to her handsome Jordanian fiancée. Leyla (Sheetal Sheth) is a shy Mulsim who's currently dating Leyla's best friend Ali. Brought together by chance, Tala and Leyla form a bond that grows deeper with every minute they spend together, turning their – and everyone's they know – world upside down.
