Lake Powell is the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States. It is on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona (most of it, along with Rainbow Bridge, is in Utah). It is a major vacation spot that around two million people visit every year. Our busy season starts April 1st, and ends October 31st. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, an American CivilWar veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869.
