Wolverine eX: Reimagining the Fan Experience featuring Madison Square Garden

Thank you for your interest in Wolverine eX: Reimagining the Fan Experience featuring Madison Square Garden! This event is run and hosted by the University Career Center. Applications are being accepted throughJuly 4th-- APPLY NOW!

Wolverine eX is a 3-week virtual program designed to help you build your professional skills and gain practical experiencein the work of an organization. You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your “success skills” such as communication and professionalism, further your problem-solving skills through a case study, and learn how an organization operates. Students who complete the program and the follow-up activity will receive a certificate from the University Career Center.

Our employer partner for this Wolverine eX is Madison Square Garden. Since it first opened its doors in 1879, Madison Square Garden has been a celebrated center of New York life. From The World’s Most Famous Arena to some of the most recognized teams in professional sports, including the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, MSG has grown to include locations across New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas with the latest development of MSG Sphere - the most innovative arena.

3-week Wolverine eX program includes:
Relationship-Building Skills: Working With and Appreciating Differences
Enhancing Digital Skills: Leveraging U-M’s LinkedIn Learning to Build Necessary Skills Identified by the Employer
Communication Skills: Perfecting Your Presentation Skills on a Topic Identified by the Employer
Critical Thinking Skills: Putting it all Together in an Employer Partner (Data & Analytics) Case Study

You will be requiredto commit 4-5 hours per week to the program by participating in virtual sessions and related assignments in between virtual sessions. Please ensurethat you are available for ALL 6 virtual sessions throughout the 3-week experience. If any sessions are missed, we are unable to provide the certificate of completion.

PROGRAM DETAILS (You must be able to attend all 6sessions)

Week 1: Relationship Building Skills - Working With and Appreciating Differences

You will participate in a UCC-led session focused on diversity and/or intercultural development (ID), in addition to an employer-led session. The world of work is evolving. As a future employee, it's important to know employers seek candidates who understand the value of diversity and can work across differences. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) aptitude is highly valued by employers who continue to find value in working in team-oriented environments. Having the ability to showcase“Global/Intercultural Fluency” is ranked one of the highest career readiness competencies by today's employers.

This Week’s Sessions:
1. Working with and Appreciating Differences, a UCC-led Session - Tuesday, July 13th from 1pm-2:30pm EST
2. Build Relationships with some recent graduates from our employer in a 30-min coffee chat - Friday, July 16th from1pm-1:30pm EST

PLUS: Enhancing Digital Skills: Leveraging U-M’s LinkedIn Learning to Build Necessary Skills Identified by the Employer

Assignment:
You will select one session from a list of specific “LinkedIn Learning” options and provide a copy of your certification of completion to UCC. The employer will provide you a list of options to choose from based on skills that are required to be successful in their roles and at their organization. (LinkedIn Learning Course to be completed by the last day of the program.)

Week 2: Communication Skills-Perfecting Your Presentation Skills on a Topic Identified by the Employer

You will participate in a UCC-led session at the beginning of the week on communication skills with an emphasis on public speaking. You will develop and present a 3-min presentation on Zoom to a UCC staff member and a few other students from the program. The topic for the presentation will be provided by the employerand will relate to its industry, its areas of expertise, or its entry-level roles.

This Week’s Sessions:
1. UCC Session on Perfecting Presentation Skills- Monday, July 19th from 1pm-2pm EST
2. Student Presentation Session - Friday, July 23rd from 1pm-2:30pm EST

Week 3: Critical Thinking Skills- Putting it all Together in an Employer Case Study with Madison Square Garden

You will attend the Case Overview Session at the beginning of the week with the employer. Students will be presented with a "problem statement/prompt" and will be required to write a 1-page summary outlining their solution to the case presented by the employer. Your 1-page summary will be submitted to the employer for feedback and review. Studentswill then attend the Employer Feedback Session at the end of the week to hear general feedback from the employer about all student submissions combined. Please note: You will not receive individual feedback on your 1-pagesubmission from the employer. The employer will highlight good solutions and areas of potential improvement across all submissions, as well as howthey would have approached the case.

1. Employer Case Overview Session - Monday, July 26th from 1pm-1:30pm EST
2. Employer Feedback Session - Friday, July 30th from 1pm-1:30pm EST

STUDENTFOLLOW-UP POST-EXPERIENCE

Within 2 weeks after completing this experience we ask that you schedule an appointment with a UCC coach, to help represent this experience on your resume, as well as develop a plan for using UCC tools and resources to pursue their plans. Your certificate of completion will be awarded following this appointment.

This application will close on Sunday, July 4th at 11:59pm. However, we encourage you to apply ASAP as this application may close early if many applications are received, as we will accept students on a rolling basis.
