Summer Reads Keynote Address by Lawrence Weschler
Launching Out: In Celebration of Marvel and Defense of Loose Synapsed Moments
Each summer, incoming students are encouraged to read a common book to begin their participation in the intellectual life of the University. This year's book is Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder about a small, quirky, museum maintained in a Los Angeles store-front by David Wilson. The book raises the issue of how we decide what is "real and what is "true." It is a fascinating look a the convergences between art, science, perception, and reality. The book's author, Lawrence Weschler will talk about these and other ideas at this lecture. Weschler is currently Director of the Institute of Humanities at New York University and has been a staff writer for the New Yorker. Open to the public.
