Personal Finance for Artists: Budgeting, Pricing, & Managing Your Cash Flow
The inability to develop sustainable income through artistic work is one of the primary reasons highly trained arts professionals leave the field. And today, a confluence of crises has made the transition intoprofessional life even more challenging, and specifically, has made planning for financial independence much more uncertain.
This session introduces how to budget, price, and project your cash flow--three of the most critical tools every artist needs to build confidence over advancing their professional careers. We will provide context over these tools, and demonstrate how to use them in ways that address some key questions: Is it possible to balance your budget and pay your bills? How does one decide which potential opportunities are financially viable, or worth the cost? How should an artist go about financing or their artistic, personal, and long term projects? Students will leave with simple templates they can use to map out their own future plans.
