Did you know, a woman driver who is wearing a seatbelt, is 17% more likely than a man to be killed when a crash takes place (NHTSA) because an equity-centered approach was not prioritized in the design of crash-test dummies? This is just one of many examples throughout history that has validated the need for a more inclusive thought process in engineering.

The College of Engineering (CoE) Diversity Equity and Inclusion Student Advisory Board or CoE DEI SAB invites you to join us for a virtual EnginTalk, titled “Embodying Equity-Centered Engineering” on Thursday, November 18th | 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM EST.

This interactive event seeks to engage the CoE community - faculty, staff and students - in a conversation about equity-centered engineering. We invite you to join us for an evening of deeper learning and rich conversation alongside a panel of six (6) STEM professionals to learn how they actualize an equity-centered approach in their work and how you can do the same!

Panelists Include:
-Dr. Erin Cech, Mechanical Engineering & Sociology Associate Professor at the University of Michigan
-Dr. Dave Chesney, Computer Science and Engineering Lecturer at the University of Michigan
-Jun Ge, R&D Program Manager at Stryker
-Katie Crawford, Civil and Environmental Engineering DEI Coordinator at the University of Michigan
-Dr. Jessy Grizzle, Director of Michigan Robotics
-Dr. Jan Stegemann, Associate Chair for the Masters Program and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan
