CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF SOUTH ASIAN DANCE WITH MAYA.
Maya is a South Asian fusion dance troupe with a strong emphasis on classical dance. Founded in 2001, the University of Michigan dance team has generated enthusiasm for ancient and modern Indian culture both on campus and outside of Michigan through its various performances. Using a multitude of styles, the team members pride themselves on choreographing pieces that are innovative and original. Maya started full-length shows to encompass the diversity of dance traditions represented in the team. This year we are excited to present to you our 7th annual show, SILSILA, which will celebrate our team's 10th year anniversary. Through nontraditional music and choreography, the show's 10 pieces will incorporate the influences of times of the day. We're also happy to have The Friars, one of Michigan's premier a cappella groups, and the improv group, Awkward Pause, as our guest acts.
