What is Life?
This Study Group will be online.
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Erin Schrödinger wrote a book titled "What is Life?". The ideas in that book served as an inspiration for Crick and Watson in their discovery of DNA.
Nobel laureate biologist Paul Nurse's similarly-titled 2020 book brings Schrödinger's up to date and discusses five "great ideas" that distinguish life: the cell, genes, evolution, life as chemistry, and as information. We will discuss these ideas and more. Please read the first two chapters for our first meeting.
Instructor Craig Stephan is a retired industrial physicist who has led many previous OLLI courses including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, The Aging Brain, Consciousness and the Brain, and Paleontology. This study group will meet Tuesdays beginning March 15 through April 5.
Pre-registration is required via the OLLI website or phone. A link to access the study group will be e-mailed to you approximately one week prior to the first session.
